There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. Palestinian health officials said seven people were killed by Israeli air strikes that damaged homes near the hospital. Explosions from shelling and air strikes sounded further west in Khan Younis as the Israeli tanks moved on, with lines of thick black smoke rising from bomb sites. Israel said it had killed six Palestinian fighters, including the southern district Hamas officer in charge of interrogating suspected spies. The Israeli military said its forces had eliminated a "terrorist cell" during a precise air strike on a car near the Balata camp in the city of Nablus.

At the very end of another tiring duel with Zach Edey, the fifth-year guard was the last man standing — again. Buie scored seven of his 31 points in OT to help the Wildcats beat Edey and the top-ranked Boilermakers for the second straight season, winning 92-88 in the Big Ten opener for each school. Ty Berry also scored seven points in OT and finished with 21, and Ryan Langborg added 20. Edey had 35 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots, but Purdue (7-1, 0-1) had trouble with Northwestern's guards all night. CNN —Newcastle United was denied a famous away win over Paris Saint-Germain after the French side was awarded a late penalty following yet another controversial VAR decision. Trailing 1-0 to Alexander Isak’s 24th-minute goal, PSG swarmed the Newcastle goal throughout the second half but without any success. Polish referee Szymon Marciniak awarded the penalty after being recommended by the VAR to view the pitchside monitor. (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles insisted that their Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs had nothing to do with revenge. After allowing the Chiefs to methodically build a 10-point halftime lead Monday night, the Eagles shut out Patrick Mahomes and Co. over the final 30 minutes. Jalen Hurts overcame a poor start in a cold, driving rain to run for a pair of touchdowns, and his go-ahead tush-push in the fourth quarter allowed the Eagles to walk away with a 21-17 victory. JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's war cabinet has approved letting in two fuel trucks a day into Gaza to help meet U.N. needs, an Israeli official said on Friday. The official, who declined to be identified, said the decision came after a request from Washington. Allowing in the fuel, the official said, gives Israel extra room to maneuver in the international arena so it can continue its campaign to eradicate Hamas in Gaza. The amount of fuel will give "minimal" support for water, sewage and sanitary systems in Gaza to prevent pandemics, the official said. (Reporting by Ari Rabinovitch; editing by Philippa Fletcher)

That's the assessment of a new report released on Thursday by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS). There is growing concern about a contradiction in the U.S. economy: jobs are plentiful and economic growth is strong, especially compared with other advanced economies, but surveys show many Americans are sour about the outlook. A key part of the report is a new tool developed to measure the well-being of Americans, which combines 11 different measures. Researchers around the world have long sought to find better ways to gauge the well-being of people that look beyond measures such as economic growth or unemployment.
